Tarot is powerful precisely because people bring their vulnerability to it. Whether you read for yourself or others, that vulnerability deserves respect.
The cards do not bind us. They illuminate.
Autonomy First
A reading is an invitation to reflection, not a verdict. The future is not fixed. Every reading presents what is — not what must be. A good reader empowers the person to choose; a poor reader creates dependency or fear.
Do No Harm
Do not offer readings on topics like medical diagnoses, legal judgments, or determinations of guilt. Do not make pronouncements about other people who are not present. Tarot should never be used to frighten, manipulate, or coerce.
Know Your Limits
Tarot can support reflection and emotional processing, but it is not a substitute for therapy, medical advice, or professional guidance. If someone needs real support, say so clearly and compassionately.
For Yourself
Read for yourself with honesty. It is easy to pull card after card until you get one that tells you what you want to hear. Resist that. The card that makes you uncomfortable is usually the most important one.
