Tarot Spreads / Custom Spread
The Custom Spread Spread
10 cards · free to draw
Ten cards in two rows of five. A signifier and the challenge that crosses it anchor the left; the rest reads your conscious and subconscious thinking, the past, what is close at hand, how you see yourself and how others see you, your hopes and fears, and the final answer.
What each position asks
The same card means something different depending on where it lands. This is what each seat in the Custom Spread is asking of the card that falls there.
- 1 The Signifier You, or the heart of the question — the card the whole reading turns on.
- 2 The Challenge What crosses the signifier — the obstacle or complicating force.
- 3 Conscious Thought What you are thinking about this — the part you already know.
- 4 Subconscious Thought What is working beneath the surface of your thinking.
- 5 The Past What has already happened and shaped where you stand.
- 6 Short Term or Key Aspect What is close at hand, or the aspect of this reading that matters most.
- 7 How You See Yourself The way you see yourself in this situation.
- 8 How Others See You The way others see you, or the environment in which you sit.
- 9 Hopes & Fears What you wish for and what you dread — often the same thing.
- 10 The Final Answer Where all of this comes to rest.
Every card in this deck is written for every one of these positions.
