The Tree of Life Spread

10 cards · free to draw

Ten cards laid on the Kabbalistic Tree, from the crown of the matter to the ground it lands on. The deepest map this deck offers — read it when the question is about a whole life rather than a week.

What each position asks

The same card means something different depending on where it lands. This is what each seat in the Tree of Life is asking of the card that falls there.

  1. 1 Kether — The Crown The source of the matter, before it took any shape. What this is really about, beneath the version you can put into words.
  2. 2 Chokmah — Wisdom The active impulse: the raw force pressing outward, unformed and impatient. What wants to happen.
  3. 3 Binah — Understanding The shaping constraint. What gives the impulse a form, and what it must give up to have one.
  4. 4 Chesed — Mercy Where the situation expands, softens, and offers more. What generosity is available, and to whom.
  5. 5 Geburah — Severity Where it must be cut back. What has to be refused, ended or held to a line for the rest to survive.
  6. 6 Tiphareth — Beauty The heart of the matter, where mercy and severity balance. The card here is the reading — the rest explains it.
  7. 7 Netzach — Victory Desire and attraction. What you want, what pulls you, and how much of the situation is driven by wanting.
  8. 8 Hod — Splendour Thought and language. How the situation is being reasoned about and talked about — including where the talking is wrong.
  9. 9 Yesod — Foundation The underlying pattern: the habit, image or story the whole thing rests on. Usually the oldest thing in the spread.
  10. 10 Malkuth — Kingdom How it lands in the world. The practical outcome — the part that shows up in a calendar or a bank balance.

Every card in this deck is written for every one of these positions.
